Welcome to the third edition of the Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club weekly update.
What a busy week it has been for us here at Manchester City Women OSC. After our trip to Wembley a fortnight ago, we organised our free coach for our members to the last league game of the season at Arsenal. Sadly, we were not going to Meadow Park for a shootout for the title but we could still finish the season undefeated and we were going to celebrate our two domestic cup triumphs. It was not to be with a late wonder-strike giving The Gunners the three points but we all still had a great day out in the sunshine and the banter always helps that side of the equation.
Away from the pitch, we have been busy on the awards front this week. On Thursday evening, the group attended the City Women’s awards ceremony, where we had a lovely meal, mixed with the players and got up close to our two trophies. There were awards on the night for Steph Houghton (Player of the Year and Goal of the Year), Megan Campbell (community award) and Ellie Roebuck (rising star award).
The following day saw the group committee invited to the City Football Academy to present our own Player of the Season award to Nikita Parris who our members had voted as their number one. Keets proudly accepted the award from Blandie, our group chair along with a silver salver. We also presented Abbie McManus with a silver salver on behalf of our members this week to commemorate her 10 years at the club, both as amateur and professional, an outstanding achievement.
We were saddened to hear that Keets has decided to move on. We wish her well and thank her so much for the last five years. She has been brilliant for City and we wish her the very best of luck for the future. McManus has also revealed her departure and we send her our best wishes for her next career move.
The bigger issues of City losing top players over the last few years is one we do need to address as a club and a debate that is bound to stir emotions amongst our members. A topic I’m sure will be discussed when we get together next week for our season review with our friends at @mcwfancast!
Finally, a group of our members had a blast at the Etihad Stadium screening of our men’s team lifting the English Premier League Trophy on Sunday. We spent the whole day celebrating and into the night too as the players brought the trophy home to the fans. We truly love this club!
Thanks for reading this column and we will be back again next week with more from the group.
