Chelsea’s summer signing Guro Reiten has labelled her performance for Norway against Nigeria at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims last night as her very best in a red and blue shirt.
The 24-year-old had put in some patchy performances at international level prior to the game against Nigeria last night but she played a starring role in a 3-0 victory in Group A.
Speaking about her performance in the post-match press conference, Reiten said “I don’t think I’ve played any better matches for my country than today.
“It is always very exciting to play in a World Cup, the first five or ten minutes are always very chaotic in these matches but I thought we did really well.”
Reiten scored the opening goal for her side in Reims with a deflected effort before setting up teammate Lisa-Marie Utland to net Norway’s second goal. The player’s first half performance, in particular, created lots of excitement amongst Chelsea fans watching on television back in England.
After hearing news of the positive comments made about her, Reiten went on to add “The move to Chelsea should be really exciting but i want a medal before that.
“We have some hard matches ahead of us but we will do our best.”
Norway will face a huge task in their next match as they take on tournament favourites France in Nice on Wednesday. Reiten is again expected to start along with Chelsea teammates Maria Thorisdottir and Maren Mjelde.
