Welcome to the latest Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club weekly update.
The season is growing nearer and nearer and everyone at Manchester City Women OSC has been very busy gearing up for it.
We have been finalising the facts and figures to enter into our second annual yearbook and our author Andrew Waldon is hoping that the final copy will go to print soon in order to have it out for the new season.
Last Friday saw us learn our FA Women’s Continental League Cup opponents and we have been placed in a very tough group. We will face Manchester United, Birmingham City, Everton and Leicester City in an extremely competitive group but one which we are confident that we can navigate safely through as holders of the trophy.
Our group secretary Jayne Comer was recently asked onto the Radio 4 consumer programme ‘You and Yours’ to discuss the recent announcement of the FA Women’s Super League Manchester derby being played at the Etihad Stadium. She was quizzed on the news, as well as women’s football in general, as was Manchester City Women’s Head of Football Gavin Makel. It was an interesting debate and if you missed it, it is still available on @BBCiPlayerRadio.
We have many members heading back to Wembley this Sunday for our men’s team’s FA Community Shield clash and we wish them a safe journey. The occasion does make me wonder why there is not a women’s version, maybe not at Wembley but say the FA Women’s Super League champions at home to the SSE Women’s FA Cup winners with all proceeds being donated to a designated charity every season. What do you think about this prospect?
Enjoy the latest week of pre-season including any friendlies which you decide to take in and we will be back with another update next week.
