Manchester United have been defeated 4-1 by Valerenga on their pre-season club tour in Norway.
Jess Sigsworth found the back of the net for United in a match which they never really had any control of as their Toppserien opponents showed their class.
Valerenga were ahead after just five minutes when former Chelsea and Everton midfielder Jenna Dear fired in from distance, United keeper Emily Ramsey was partly at fault for the goal.
The Norwegian side were soon 2-0 up. Cameroon international Nchout Njoya Ajara unleashed a rasping drive from outside of the area and the ball nestled in the corner of the net.
Casey Stoney’s United side have plenty of quality themselves and they were back in it before the half-time interval. Ella Toone’s initial shot was blocked by home keeper Guro Pettersen and Sigsworth swept the loose ball in the back of the net.
Valerenga regained their two-goal advantage in the second half. Rikke Madsen crossed the ball into the feet of Njoya and the striker cleverly shook off her marker and slotted the ball beyond Ramsey.
The impressive Njoya completed her hat-trick 15 minutes from time when she took advantage of Madsen’s assist to go on to produce a composed finish as Valerenga won the match 4-1.
An impressive 7,124 attendance was recorded for the match in Oslo.
