One of the most intriguing battles of the coming weekend in the FA Women’s Super League sees Reading take on Tottenham Hotspur at Adams Park.
The Royals are so often solid on home soil but Kelly Chambers’ side come up against a Spurs team who have eased into life as a top flight club so far this season.
Reading’s 3-0 home defeat to Arsenal last weekend was their first in four matches. Whilst there is no shame losing to the champions, manager Chambers will be keen to see some improvement in her side’s defence with The Royals having conceded two or more goals in each of their league fixtures dating back to opening day when they won 1-0 at bottom club Liverpool.
In contrast, Tottenham Hotspur kept their last clean sheet just last weekend when they defeated Brighton & Hove Albion at The Hive. Karen Hills and Juan Amoros’ side are set to reach the halfway point of the season virtually safe from relegation and they can surely enjoy their football even more after Christmas.
Tottenham Hotspur and Reading have already met once this season. The pair came together at The Hive in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup with the visitors running out 4-0 winners. Brooke Chaplen netted twice for Reading that day while Millie Farrow was also on target. The other goal was scored by unfortunate Spurs defender Ashleigh Neville.
Much has changed since that meeting, particularly in North London. You would expect Reading to be hosting a more organised and confident Spurs outfit in High Wycombe this weekend.
