FA Women’s Championship club Sheffield United will face holders Manchester City at home in the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup, the tie of the round.
The draw for the last eight was made earlier today with The Blades being handed a mouthwatering fixture against one of the heavyweights of the women’s game.
Manchester City go into the winter break in second place in the FA Women’s Super League table, boasting the division’s best defensive record with just three goals conceded. Sheffield United occupy the same position in the FA Women’s Championship while they are highest scorers after netting 36 goals in just 11 games. The Blades have won nine of those matches.
In other ties, last season’s runners-up, Arsenal, welcome Reading to Meadow Park. The Royals were recently defeated 3-0 by The Gunners in the FA Women’s Super League but Kelly Chambers’ side are capable of a shock on their day and were SSE Women’s FA Cup semi-finalists last season. Chelsea also have a tricky tie with undefeated FA Women’s Championship club Aston Villa being the visitors to Kingsmeadow while Manchester United host Brighton & Hove Albion.
The quarter-final ties are scheduled to be held during the week commencing 12 January 2020 with final fixture dates and ticket details set to be announced by the participating clubs in due course.
