Manchester City Women OSC members at their Christmas Bash

WEEKLY UPDATE: Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club #33

Welcome to the latest Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club weekly update.

Despite the FA Women’s Super League coming to an end until the New Year, this week has been one of our busiest of the year.

Last Saturday saw us host our annual Xmas Bash and this year we hosted a joint event with our friends from The Bluebells branch of the Manchester City OSC family. We welcomed lots of members and families from both branches and we all had a great time partying. Along with the usual festive fun and free food, we had games such as ‘guess the name of the City bear’, a special version of pass the parcel with great City prizes in every layer, an amazing prize raffle with signed items from both the men’s and women’s team’s and an auction for a signed pair of Nicolas Otamendi’s boots.

We were also lucky enough to welcome along four very special guests. Our branch president and City Ladies founding manager Neil Mather staged a brief presentation about setting up our women’s team in 1988. Former City goalkeeper and recent England Walking Football international Anita Clarke came along and chatted to members about her experiences. They were joined by two ex-City players David White and Paul Stewart, the latter of which was presented with a silver salver to acknowledge his announcement as The Bluebells new branch president. Again, the two lads also held a brief overview of their careers and posed for selfies while signing autographs and books for everyone. It was a great afternoon and we would like to thank our special guests and everyone who came along and helped us celebrate in such style.

Sunday saw us go along to a freezing Academy Stadium to cheer on the girls for the last time in 2019 as we welcomed Brighton & Hove Albion. On the pitch, it went very well with an emphatic 5-0 victory. Off the pitch, we were very cold but as ever, we sang on and had a great time. One member in particular had an afternoon to remember. Anastasia has become very well known both with us Blues and even on television for her love for City. Sunday saw her able to meet her favourite player Ellie Roebuck and present her with a specially made snow globe.

We were proud to see that Tameside United, whose Under-11s girls team are sponsored by the OSC, were chosen by the club to be mascots and player escorts for the Brighton & Hove Albion fixture and as such got to walk out and line-up with the teams.

Finally, we were very proud to be able to present two cheques to a very special charity on Sunday. The OSC all feel very close to the Darby Rimmer Foundation MND charity due to our links with both Steph Houghton and her husband Stephen Darby. This Sunday, we were able to make two presentations to Stephen. Firstly, our treasurer Jude Morris King and OSC secretary Jayne Comer handed over a cheque for £500 on behalf of the Manchester City Supporters Club Charity Fund. Then our Chair Sarah Bland (Blandie) was extremely proud to hand Stephen a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of Manchester City Women Official Supporters Club and all our members. It was a proud moment for us and we hope it goes to help such a worthy cause combating a terrible illness.

As you can see, we have had an excellent but extremely busy week, just how we like it.

I will be back again next week to review our 2019 and also to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Until then, enjoy the festive build up.
