FA Women’s Super League strugglers Liverpool have completed the impressive signing of Northern Ireland international midfielder Rachel Furness according to official club media sources.
The 31-year-old Sunderland-born midfielder moves to Prenton Park from The Reds’ FA Women’s Super League rivals Reading.
The length of Furness’ contract with the Merseyside club has been left undisclosed, however, the player will link-up with her new teammates this week and is expected to make her debut for The Reds against Brighton & Hove Albion at The People’s Pension Stadium next weekend.
After two-and-a-half years of being a regular in the Reading side, Furness joined newly-promoted club Tottenham Hotspur on loan in the summer and she has starred for Karen Hills and Juan Amoros’ side during the first half of the season. The midfielder’s only goal for the North Londoners came against Liverpool as she netted a first half penalty in a 1-0 victory at The Hive.
Furness has also impressed on the international stage throughout her career. She has 60 senior caps to her name for Northern Ireland while she has scored 17 goals.
Goals will need to be part of the player’s game during the second half of the season. New club Liverpool find themselves second-bottom of the FA Women’s Super League table after scoring just three goals in 10 matches during the first half of the season.
