Swiss international midfielder Lia Walti has signed a new long term contract with FA Women’s Super League champions Arsenal according to official club media sources.
The 26-year-old Langnau im Emmental-born midfielder has impressed for The Gunners since joining the club from Bundesliga Frauen outfit 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in summer 2018.
Arsenal have announced that Walti has today agreed a new contract that will keep her at Meadow Park for the long term. The length of the deal has not been disclosed by the North Londoners.
Walti has made 32 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal in her 18 months with the club. She is yet to score her first goal for The Gunners, although she is most at home either in defence or as a holding midfielder.
The player started her career in her homeland with Koniz before joining BSC Young Boys Frauen where she spent four years. Walti joined 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in 2013 and she went on to gain UEFA Women’s Champions League experience during her time in Germany. The player made 97 appearances for The Turbines in which she scored seven goals.
Walti was named in the PFA FA Women’s Super League Player of the Year for 2018/2019 following an impressive first season for latest club Arsenal.
