As we move on from our defeat against Bristol City, Sunday was supposed to bring our highly anticipated match against Liverpool at Prenton Park.
There was plenty of excitement ahead of the match with us set to return to the scene of where our journey began.
Unfortunately for us, for the second time in the space of a month, the poor weather forced a postponement with Prenton Park waterlogged. It now means that our previous two away fixtures will have to be rearranged into what is already a tight schedule.
Despite disappointment at our situation, many of our fans travelled to watch our on-loan players at Sheffield United who were at home to Aston Villa in the FA Women’s Championship. The game saw the hosts fall to a 1-0 defeat despite some great periods of play, as recent loan signing Molly Green featured.
Thankfully, Wednesday’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion will be on home soil. The Leigh Sports Village with its high-quality facilities, hybrid grass, and underfloor heating will rarely see a game called off. Our quarter-final tie against Albion should be an interesting one, as although the visitors have previously held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw, we beat them 4-0 in late November. Tickets for the game can be purchased on the Leigh Sports Village website priced at £6 for adults and £3 for children. We hope to see as many fans as possible in attendance for a highly important game as we aim for cup glory.
Following Wednesday’s fixture, we will look forward to Sunday which will bring a meeting with fellow newly-promoted side Tottenham Hotspur who currently stand in fifth place. Our previous meeting brought a 3-0 win in October in which Kirsty Hanson and Jane Ross found the back of the net while Ashleigh Neville scored an own goal. Our girls currently stand one point behind Tottenham Hotspur with two games in hand with a win potentially taking us up to fourth above Reading.
Our next away game is against The Royals on 2 February. If you fancy a day with the mighty Barmy Army contact us on @barmyarmyTravel for more information.
Good luck to the girls with the next two games, we know they’ll do us proud as always. Here’s to hoping that in our next update, will be discussing two big wins!
