Nick Cushing poses for a photograph with Manchester City Women OSC members at Birmingham City

WEEKLY UPDATE: Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club #38

Welcome to this week’s Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club update.

It has been another busy week for all of our members with many travelling to Chesterfield in midweek for our FA Women’s Continental League Cup quarter-final tie against Sheffield United and then to Solihull for a traditionally tough fixture against Birmingham City on Sunday.

The game against Sheffield United was a good open tie and attended by a large crowd which always enhances the cup tie atmosphere. City controlled the game and eventually, clinical finishing from Pauline Bremer proved the difference with the player bagging a hat-trick.

Last season, we were informed that women who scored hat-tricks were not automatically awarded the match ball, so we started a new OSC tradition of marking all of our trebles with a ball, inscribed with both the match and signed by all of our members. On Sunday, our member Aeryn presented Pauline with hers to mark her midweek achievement.

Sunday also gave us the chance to do another very special presentation. We wanted to present Nick Cushing with a memento to mark our appreciation of not only all that he has done for our football club, but also his support of us here at the Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club. Nick has been incredibly supportive of us since our formation in 2015. We know Nick has three games left but the aftermath of a Manchester derby, a midweek game at Arsenal and an emotional last home game where we think the club will honour him, didn’t seem like the same good opportunities to present the memento to him as after the game at Solihull. Our Chair Blandie presented Nick with a special silver salver on behalf of all our members, while secretary Jayne presented him with one of our pennants commemorating last season’s double cup triumph. Nick was thankful and emotional and stated that he hoped that the supporters club in New York are as special, which of course we know they will be. It was a special moment for us all and a fitting way for us to say thank you to Nick for all of the wonderful memories which he has helped to create. After one last huge group photograph, we all set off home.

Nick still has three big games to prepare for as we said and of course, we will be there backing him and the team.

We will be back again next week with another update, enjoy your football and safe travels.
