Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of young defender Ellie Fletcher on a free transfer after the player came to agreement to terminate her contract with FA Women’s Super League club Liverpool.
The 20-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Blackburn Rovers’ FA Women’s Championship rivals Sheffield United but her stay with the South Yorkshire club ended prematurely following a knee injury.
It is understood that Fletcher mutually agreed to end her spell with former club Liverpool earlier today with Blackburn Rovers soon announcing the arrival of the player at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium on a free transfer via their official website.
Rovers have handed the youngster the number 18 shirt and the player will be eligible to feature against her former club when Liverpool arrive in Bamber Bridge on Sunday for their reversed Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie.
Fletcher was initially on the books at Manchester United before moving to Liverpool in 2016. The player has made a handful of first team appearances for The Reds but struggled to nail down a regular place in the senior side.
Her loan with Sheffield United during the first half of the season was her second with The Blades. New club Blackburn Rovers are scheduled to end their campaign against Carla Ward’s side at The Proact Stadium in April.
