Welcome to this week’s update from the Manchester City Women Official Supporters’ Club.
As you will know, this last week saw Nick Cushing’s last two games in charge of Manchester City. Both games were against Arsenal in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup semi-final last Wednesday and in a crucial home fixture in the FA Women’s Super League on Sunday.
The semi-final tie at Meadow Park was unfortunately scheduled not only for midweek, but also the same night as our men’s semi-final second leg against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup so our usual travelling contingent was not as large as it usually is. Those members who did go however we as ever, loud and proud and backed the team endlessly. The Gunners edged the game 2-1 and we wish them well for the final.
The game on the Sunday was Nick’s last and as expected, it was a truly emotional occasion for all of us who were there. His team did him proud and won an epic game 2-1 but tears were shed at the end as the club made a presentation on the pitch to Nick and he took to the microphone to talk to the fans. Here at the OSC, we have always had a very special relationship with Nick and he has been exceptionally supportive of us. It was sad to see his send off but we are proud and grateful of what he has achieved here and we wish him every success in his new career at New York City.
We also wanted to make sure that Jill Scott’s birthday didn’t get forgotten on Sunday amidst all the Nick celebrations so our members all signed a card for her. Jill is a very special player and person who we all love.
This last week saw Guims our member from France come over for the first time this season. He has been an avid follower of City for years and a member since our very early days. He had to be here for Nick’s last game and it was great to see him. A number of us joined him for a meal out on Saturday before meeting up for the game. He also achieved an ambition when the City playmakers on the day selected him to wave his favourite player’s (Pauline Bremer) flag as the teams entered the pitch. We wish him safe travels home and look forward to his next visit.
This coming weekend sees yet another trip to London as we head to West Ham United. We are again putting on a subsidised coach for our members and any City fans who wish to book on should contact us via our Twitter feed urgently as spaces are now limited.
Enjoy your football this week. Wishing you all safe travels and see you again next week.
