Bristol City loanee Megan Wynne netted her first senior international goal for Wales as they defeated Estonia 2-0 at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham last night.
The 27-year-old Welwyn Garden City-born midfielder is currently on loan at the Stoke Gifford Stadium from Bristol City’s FA Women’s Super League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and she is making her mark for both club and country.
Wynne started the match for Jayne Ludlow’s side and scored her first senior international goal in the 68th minute as Wales finally made the breakthrough against Estonia. Ffion Morgan forced a save from the Estonian goalkeeper just two minutes after coming on and Wynne reacted quickest to fire home the loose ball.
Former Bristol Academy player Nadia Lawrence netted Wales’ other goal eight minutes later as they recorded a comprehensive victory over a side who are 60 places below them in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings..
It has been a positive couple of weeks for Bristol City player Wynne who featured in her club’s 1-0 victory over Birmingham City at the SportNation.bet Stadium in Solihull in the FA Women’s Super League, a result which saw the club climb out of the relegation zone. The player has now opened her goalscoring account for her country and she will be hoping to make an impact again in Wales’ UEFA Women’s EURO 2021 qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Norway next month.
