Chelsea forward Adelina Engman has dropped out of the Finland squad after picking up an injury last week according to reports by The Finnish Football Association on their official website.
The 25-year-old Mariehamn-born attacker missed Finland’s 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic on Thursday and will play no part for Anna Signeul’s side in their remaining fixtures in the Cyprus Cup against Croatia and Slovakia.
It is understood that Engman has picked up an injury on the training ground and the player has been recalled to Kingsmeadow for treatment at the request of her club. At this stage, the nature of the injury has not been confirmed and it is unknown whether Engman will miss any of her club’s upcoming action in the Women’s FA Cup and FA Women’s Super League.
Engman only returned to the Chelsea squad last month for the Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Liverpool after missing a month of action through injury. The player has struggled for first team opportunities when fit this season and another injury could cause the Finnish forward further frustration as she looks to finally make her mark in an ever-improving squad at Kingsmeadow.
An update on Engman’s injury is expected to be provided by her club in due course once the player has been assessed by the Chelsea medical team.
