The Barclays FA Women’s Super League is back again with another classic encounter this evening with Arsenal’s 2014 FA Women’s Super League 1 fixture against Chelsea at Meadow Park on the agenda.
In a re-run on the official Barclays FA Women’s Super League Facebook channel and the FA Player, we will see whether Arsenal could edge back into the FA Women’s Super League 1 title race by beating league leaders Chelsea in-front of their own fans in Boreham Wood.
We preview the re-run, a fixture which promised to play a huge part in the destination of the FA Women’s Super League 1 title.
The Gunners had it all to do if they were to lift the league title with four games remaining. Pedro Martinez Losa’s side were occupying fourth place in the table, six points off the summit. Arsenal’s form was good since their 2-1 league defeat at Chelsea two months earlier. The North Londoners had taken 10 points from an available 12.
The Arsenal squad to take on Chelsea at Meadow Park in 2014 included four players who are still on the club’s books today, those being Emma Mitchell, Jordan Nobbs, Leah Williamson and Danielle Carter. The Gunners were captained by Alex Scott while centre-back Casey Stoney had developed a hunger for scoring goals prior to her club’s latest home fixture against their London rivals.
Chelsea made the short trip to Boreham Wood on the back of a run of five wins in six league matches. Their only defeat came at title rivals Liverpool. The Blues were defeated 3-0 by Arsenal in their last visit to Meadow Park in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres Cup.
The main danger in the Chelsea side would be posed by attackers Eni Aluko and Ji So-Yun. Emma Hayes’ side included a number of other familiar faces including Hannah Blundell, Katie Chapman and Drew Spence.
Tonight’s re-run on the official Barclays FA Women’s Super League Facebook page and FA Player kicks-off at 7.45pm.
