Former Bristol Academy defensive midfielder Marije Brummel can get her spell with latest club Arna-Bjornar up and running next week with the Norwegian Football Association having given clubs the go-ahead to return to training.
The veteran Dutch midfielder has been playing with Arna-Bjornar’s Toppserien rivals IL Sandviken since her short spell in England with Bristol Academy came to an end in 2015.
Brummel joined her latest club during the Toppserien close season ahead of the 2020 campaign but like most competitive football, the division was suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The 2020 Toppserien was set to commence on 21 March but the league is now expected to start in early July. Women’s football in Norway is on course for a return with clubs having been given the green light to resume to training from Monday, meaning that former Bristol Academy player Brummel can finally begin to prepare for her first season with Arna-Bjornar.
The midfielder finished in fourth place with former side IL Sandviken last season but she has now joined a club who only avoided a relegation play-off by three points in 2019.
During her brief spell with Bristol Academy, Brummel made 10 appearances in all competitions for the club. Five of those outings came in FA Women’s Super League 1 as her side finished bottom of the table.
Brummel is one of two former FA Women’s Super League 1 players now featuring in the Norwegian Toppserien, former Liverpool defender Ingrid Ryland of IL Sandviken is the other.
