REWIND: Reading leave it late to rescue point in Friday night thriller

In a rare Friday night fixture in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Remi Allen netted a 95th-minute goal for Reading as they recorded a 2-2 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion back in November.

FA Women’s Super League Full-Time take a look back at what was a frantic 90 minutes of action at The People’s Pension Stadium in Crawley.

Reading went into the match five points clear of the hosts and they took the lead in the 15-minute of the match when Fara Williams’ corner kick was fumbled into the net by Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Megan Walsh.

The Royals’ lead lasted just three minutes. Albion striker Aileen Whelan got her head on a cross from the right and expertly directed the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 1-1.

Despite falling behind early in the first half, Brighton & Hove Albion would go into the break with a 2-1 lead. Troublesome forward Ini Umotong grabbed the second goal for Hope Powell’s side as she beat the covering defender before thumping the ball home.

Reading looked the more dangerous side throughout the second half, although they were guilty of some poor finishing. Kelly Chambers’ side were inches away from getting themselves back into the match when Brooke Chaplen saw an effort from distance cannon off the crossbar before Allen suffered the same fate moments later.

Brighton & Hove Albion looked set for the three points until Allen finally poked in an equaliser at the death after the hosts had failed to clear the ball following a dangerous corner kick.

Reading remained in sixth position in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League as a result of the point collected in Sussex while Brighton & Hove Albion continued to occupy ninth place.
