Leicester City defender joins Arizona State Sun Devils

It has been announced that Leicester City defender Lucy Johnson will move to America to continue her development with the Arizona State Sun Devils soccer club.

The 18-year-old has regularly represented Leicester City over the last two seasons but will now look to test herself in the American system with The Sun Devils, a club which falls under the Arizona State University umbrella.

Johnson’s move to the United States was confirmed last night on The Sun Devils’ official Twitter account.

Johnson made eight appearances for Leicester City in the FA Women’s Championship last season, their first campaign in the second tier. She netted her first goal in a 4-0 home victory over Lewes. She has built on her first season as a senior player with a further nine appearances in the league this season, netting her only goal in the 3-3 draw with London Bees at Farley Way.

Despite a difficult start, Jonathan Morgan’s Leicester City showed some real signs of progress throughout the 2019/2020 campaign. The Foxes ended the campaign in sixth position, a slight improvement on their final league place of seventh in 2018/2019, however, the club were enjoying a five-match unbeaten run in all competitions at the time that football was suspended.
