Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema will get the opportunity to hit the 70-goal mark at senior international level in September with The Netherlands’ remaining 2021 UEFA Women’s EURO qualifying schedule having been confirmed.
The 23-year-old Hoogeveen-born hotshot is the all-time record goalscorer for the Dutch with 69 goals in just 88 senior outings for her country.
The striker was set for her chance to net goal number 70 in April with The Netherlands having been scheduled to face Kosovo and Estonia but those games were postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The KNVB have now announced the remainder of Sarina Wiegman’s side’s qualifying schedule with a trip to Russia up next on Friday 18 September.
Miedema has scored eight goals in The Orange Lionesses’ six qualifying matches to date include a goal in the 2-0 victory over Russia in Eindhoven in October last year. Should the player fail to hit her 70th senior international goal in the return fixture in September, she is likely to have further opportunities in October against lowly Estonia and Kosovo.
At club level, Miedema was the top scorer in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League this season for the second consecutive year. The striker netted an impressive 16 goals in 18 matches for The Gunners.
