Goalkeeper Tinja-Riikka Korpela has committed her immediate future to Everton with the club having announced that the player has agreed a new one-year deal.
The Finnish international has made 11 appearances for The Blue Girls in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League since her arrival from Norwegian club Valerenga last summer in what has been an impressive debut season at Everton.
Korpela is known for her winning mentality and she has enough honours to back it up with the player having won two Frauen-Bundesliga titles in her time with German side Bayern Munich and three Finnish Naisten Liga championships while at FC Honka. She has also racked up an impressive 91 appearances for her national side whilst also appearing at two UEFA Women’s EUROs.
Korpela is renowned for her impressive agility, she offers composure as she brings a cool head to one of the most pressured positions on the pitch. The player has shown her worth this season most notably with superb displays against Liverpool in a 1-0 win at Anfield and against Tottenham Hotspur as The Blue Girls drew 2-2. The keeper brings experience to her position alongside youngster Sandy MacIver, who at just 21 can continue to learn so much from the experienced 34-year-old veteran.
Everton will be looking to improve on this season’s sixth-place finish when the Barclays FA Women’s Super League resumes in September.
