Liverpool vice-captain Niamh Fahey has signed a new deal at Prenton Park according to reports on the club’s official website.
The Republic of Ireland international has been at the club since 2018 in which time she has played a vital role in the team.
The player has made a total of 41 appearances for Liverpool during her time on Merseyside.
Fahey will again be expected to be one of the leaders in the Liverpool side next season as the new arrivals in the FA Women’s Championship aim to bounce back and rediscover their previous good form to return to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. She can provide The Reds with a wealth of knowledge and experience that can be relied upon as the club seek that swift return to the top flight.
The versatile player who can be seen in either a defensive midfield position or as a centre-back is also vastly experienced at international level with Fahey edging towards a century of appearances for her national team. Fahey’s club career has seen her feature for both Arsenal and Chelsea. She has won silverware at both clubs including the Women’s FA Cup and FA Women’s Super League title.
After signing her new deal, the veteran has explained that she wants to fight for Liverpool’s return back to the top flight of English women’s football and that she is ready to go for the next challenge.
In the announcement, Fahey also commented on how important the fans will be next season, explaining how they need to back the team and that she is grateful to continue to represent them.
Her manager, Vicky Jepson, has praised the player’s decision to commit to the club. The Reds boss has also explained how invaluable Fahey is to the squad with her experience in the top flight, highlighting the fact that the player will continue to be integral to the team’s future performances.
