Tottenham Hotspur – End of season awards

Tottenham Hotspur have announced their Player of the Season and Goal of the Season awards following a vote by supporters.

The winning goal was Rianna Dean’s diving header against West Ham United at the London Stadium in September. It was Dean’s first goal in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and the first of three against The Hammers this season.

Rosella Ayane provided a well-timed cross from the left wing and Dean, making her first start after coming back from injury, finished in style. The striker went on to score three more goals in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and six domestic cup goals in the curtailed season.

Dean thanked all the fans for voting for her and for the support of the record-breaking crowds saying
“I can’t wait until next season.”

The Player of the Season award went to newcomer Hannah Godfrey. The young centre-back joined
Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, returning to England having been playing in America for the previous three years.

Godfrey played 14 of the club’s 15 Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixtures this season and impressed from the start with her calm presence and good decision making. Despite her young age and this being her first year in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, Godfrey has taken the lead in forming a defensive partnership with 20-year-old centre-back partner Anna Filbey.

This season also saw Godfrey capped for Scotland for the first time, scoring on her debut in a 5-0 win
over Albania.

Thanking the fans for the award, Godfrey said “I have absolutely loved every minute of my first year
in the WSL and it is so lovely to get the recognition from you all.”

She follows Ashleigh Neville in winning the Player of the Season award in her first season with the club and the fans and staff will hope that she continues to follow in the footsteps of the popular full-back.
