They say that a settled squad is the sign of a happy manager so Sheffield United boss Carla Ward must be delighted with her current squad.
The FA Women’s Championship runners-up have today confirmed via their official website that three more players have agreed new deals for next season, those being midfielders Kasia Lipka, Alethea Paul and Rhema Lord-Mears. This is fresh off the back of the recent announcement that Jade Pennock, Katie Wilkinson and Maddy Cusack have all also pledged themselves to The Blades for the upcoming season.
The versatile Paul joined the club from Manchester City in 2018 has thus far made 32 appearances in red and white and fans can expect many more outings to come from the 21-year old.
Lord-Mears joined the South Yorkshire club from Lancashire side Blackburn Rovers halfway through the 2019/2020 season and manager Ward must have been impressed with what she has initially seen to offer the player a new deal. Lord-Mears had already worked under Ward during their time together at Sheffield FC.
Lipka is also a relatively recent signing with the player having joined in the summer of 2019 after recovering from a nasty Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury which ruled her out of the entire season prior. She was able to feature seven times last season as she looked to regain her match sharpness and her manager obviously has faith the she will be back even stronger once the league kicks-off in September.
The retention of so many key players should strike fear into the hearts of The Blades’ rivals. After narrowly missing out on promotion, holding onto to their key players this summer means that we can expect another competitive United side next season who should be challenging for the title.
