Manchester City sign former Everton forward – A MCWFC OSC view

Probably the worst kept secret of the summer is now official and Chloe Kelly is a Manchester City player as announced by the club via their official website yesterday.

Everybody here at the Manchester City Women OSC is very pleased and extremely excited about the news of Chloe becoming our latest signing.

Last season saw Chloe put in a number of eye-catching performances in a much improved Everton team, not to mention her fantastic goalscoring record too. Her spectacular finishing grabbed the headlines and I know that when we played Everton early in the season, she kept our defence on their toes all afternoon. It was all the more impressive considering the horrendous conditions that day in Southport.

Losing Pauline Bremer was a blow to us as she was so good last season. Pauline’s decision to return to Germany meant that the club needed to look for a proven Barclays FA Women’s Super League performer to complement the experience and quality of Ellen White and the undoubted potential of Jess Park up front.  In Chloe, we at the OSC believe that we have found just that.

We hope to be challenging on four fronts next season (possibly five if the intention to play out the remainder of the 2019/2020 Women’s FA Cup become reality) so we need a quality and flexible squad to be able to rotate in numerous games and areas. The prospect of City’s attack next season is one to strke fear into the hearts of defenders everywhere I am sure.

The news of the new signing was not the only pleasing announcement for us this weekend. City have revealed that defender Gemma Bonner has signed an extension to her contract that will keep her at the club until at least 2022. Gemma was without doubt one of our most consistent performers last season and to tie her down with a new contract is great news and again is something that everybody here at the OSC was delighted to hear about.

These two signings, with the prospect of more to come, are so exciting and we cant wait to be back next season when we are allowed to sing as loud and proud as ever.
