Highly-rated Durham defender Sarah Wilson has signed a new contract with the club according to reports on The Wildcats’ official website.
The centre-back is a fans’ favourite at New Ferens Park and has spent the last six years of her career with the club.
Only midfielder Beth Hepple has made more appearances than Wilson in the current Durham squad but the defender will have the opportunity to build on her tally of 129 outings with the player having today agreed a contract extension with The Wildcats.
Wilson has been used heavily by Durham in recent years but injury resulted in the player making just 10 appearances for Lee Sanders’ side last term. The player’s services were sorely missed by her teammates as Durham recorded a third-place finish in the FA Women’s Championship, again falling agonisingly short of promotion.
Sanders will be keen to build a squad this summer capable of going all the way to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in the coming season and having his defensive rock in Wilson onboard is a really positive move.
Wilson joined Durham from Newcastle United in 2014 before going on to become one of the most consistent defensive performers in the FA Women’s Championship.
