Former Chelsea defender joins Reading as three players renew contracts

Reading have completed the signing of former Chelsea defender Deanna Cooper on a free transfer according to reports on The Royals’ official website.

The Berkshire club have also confirmed that Natasha Harding, Kiera Skeels and Lily Woodham have signed contract extensions on a busy day of activity for Kelly Chambers’ side.

Defender Cooper joins Reading as a free agent after leaving Chelsea at the end of last month. The player spent more than three years at Kingsmeadow after joining Chelsea from second tier club London Bees. The centre-back made 29 appearances for The Blues, scoring there goals. Unfortunately, her time in South West London was severely hit with injury problems. She joins Danielle Carter and Emma Mitchell in signing for Reading so far this summer.

In other news, Reading have revealed that three players have signed new deals with the club. Captain Harding has committed her immediate future to the club, a big announcement given the fact that so many of her experienced teammates have left Adams Park this summer. The Welsh international has played an integral role for The Royals for the last three years.

Youngsters Skeels and Woodham have also signed on again at the Berkshire club. The former has signed her first professional terms with Reading after being in and around the first team last season.

Despite Chambers’ squad having looked a bit threadbare at the start of the summer, there are now signs that her group is really beginning to take shape ahead of another competitive Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.
