Former Manchester City and West Ham United midfielder joins Fiorentina

Former Manchester City and West Ham United midfielder Tessel Middag has joined Italian club ACF Fiorentina on a one-year deal according to reports on The Purples’ official website.

The 27-year-old Dutch midfielder was a free agent after leaving West Ham United at the end of last season. She spent two years at Rush Green, a spell which was severely disrupted by long term injury.

It has today been reported that Middag has joined Italian club Fiorentina. The Florence-based club have recruited well so far this summer and the midfielder is the second addition from the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in as many days with former Arsenal defender Louise Quinn having moved to the Stadio Gino Bozzi yesterday.

Middag started her career in her homeland with ADO Den Haag before joining Ajax. The player won one Eredivisie Vrouwen title and two KNVB Women’s Cups during her time playing in The Netherlands.

In 2016, Middag moved to England where she joined Manchester City. The player won the FA Women’s Super League 1 title, Women’s FA Cup and the FA Women’s Continental League Cup with City but she missed a large chunk of football after sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The player suffered the same injury heartbreak in her first season at West Ham United. Middag returned to fitness last season as she made 13 appearances for The Hammers in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The 44-times capped Dutch international will be hoping for an injury-free season as she plays her football in Italy for the very first time.
