Northern Irish international defender Rachel Newborough has signed a new contract with Charlton Athletic for the coming season according to reports on The Addicks’ official website.
The 23-year-old was one of just two players to appear in all 12 FA Women’s Championship fixtures for Charlton Athletic last season, Lilli Maple being the other.
With Newborough being a key member of The Addicks boss Riteesh Mishra’s squad, the player has today handed her manager a big boost by signing a new contract at The Oakwood. She joins Grace Coombs, Alice Griffiths and Maple in signing on with the South East Londoners for the coming season.
While Charlton Athletic ended the 2019/2020 campaign bottom of the FA Women’s Championship on a points per game basis, the club had the second-best defensive record of the five sides battling to avoid propping up the table. Defender Newborough played a big part in The Addicks’ backline generally being difficult to breach. The youngster’s performances were recognised with Newborough going close to winning the Charlton Athletic 2019/2020 Player of the Season award.
Newborough previously played second tier football with Doncaster Rovers Belles while she also enjoyed a spell playing in the United States prior to joining Charlton Athletic last summer.
