Former Yeovil Town defender Nicola Cousins has completed a move to FA Women’s Championship side Lewes according to reports on the club’s official website.
The 31-year-old Cardiff-born defender becomes The Rookettes boss Simon Parker’s seventh summer signing with the player having been handed the number five shirt for the coming season.
Cousins has been without a club after leaving former side Yeovil Town in 2019 following their relegation from the top flight. She made 44 appearances at the top level of the women’s game for The Lady Glovers prior to their well-documented fall from grace.
Prior to her time with the Somerset club, Cousins enjoyed more than a decade with Cardiff City LFC. She signed her first professional terms with The Dragons before going on to star for the club at senior level. Her good performances were soon recognised by her country with Cousins being drafted into the Welsh squad for the first time in 2006.
Cousins will offer new manager Parker plenty of versatility. With the player being handed the number five shirt, she could predominantly be fielded at the heart of the Lewes defence, however, Cousins can also be utilised out wide or in midfield.
Lewes have now announced summer signings in each of the last seven days as manager Parker’s squad takes shape.
