Former Liverpool attacking midfielder becomes Ward’s first signing at Birmingham City

Former Liverpool attacking midfielder Christie Murray has become Carla Ward’s first signing as manager of Birmingham City according to reports on the Blues’ official website.

The 30-year-old Scottish international ace moves to the SportNation.bet Stadium on a free transfer after leaving her former club earlier this summer following their relegation to the FA Women’s Championship.

It has been reported that Murray has signed a two-year deal with Birmingham City while she has been handed the number 10 shirt by the club for the coming season. The midfielder is the first of what may be as many as eight new signings which new Blues boss Ward could make prior to the start of the 2020/2021 Barclays FA Women’s Super League season.

Murray has a long association with the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. She has previously represented Arsenal, Bristol Academy and Doncaster Rovers Belles prior to her two-year stay with former club Liverpool. The midfielder failed to make a start for The Reds in the top flight last season. She was named amongst the substitutes on 11 occasions, being brought on six times.

After signing for Birmingham City, Murray told the club’s official media sources “I’m really happy to be joining the Blues.

“After speaking with both (General Manager) Sarah Westwood and Carla Ward, I’m excited about their vision for the Club moving forward and I want to play a part in that.

“I can’t wait to hit the ground running and get the season started.”

Murray takes plenty of international experience with her to the SportNation.bet Stadium. She has been capped by her country at senior level on 63 appearances while she has netted five goals.
