Charlton Athletic manager Riteesh Mishra is likely to enter the transfer market for at least one senior goalkeeper with Shanell Salgado having suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.
The 26-year-old sustained the injury blow during The Addicks’ pre-season programme and the player is expected to miss the entire 2020/2021 campaign according to reports on the club’s official website.
Salgado’s injury means that Charlton Athletic currently have no senior goalkeepers on their books. The player was an understudy to first choice keeper Katie Startup last season who has since swapped South East London for Brighton & Hove Albion.
It may have been a case that Salgado was set to claim the number one jersey at The Oakwood this season but her injury has now given manager Mishra a headache just weeks before the start of the new season.
With Startup no longer on the books at Charlton Athletic, Mishra may have already been in the transfer market for one goalkeeper to rival Salgado but he may now need to decide on whether to bring in two senior goalkeepers for the new season or sign one experienced stopper with an academy player promoted as a reserve.
Salgado was an unused substitute for Charlton Athletic in 11 of their FA Women’s Championship games last season but was utilised by the club in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.
