Manchester United goalkeeper Fran Bentley has joined FA Women’s Championship club Blackburn Rovers on loan for the entire 2020/2021 campaign according to reports on Rovers’ official website.
The 19-year-old is yet to really make her mark on the United first team and will gain further experience playing in the second tier this season with Blackburn Rovers.
Bentley will get a full season of second tier football under her belt at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium and will compete with fellow keepers Emma Bradley and Alex Brooks for Rovers’ number one jersey.
After starting out in the Manchester United youth system, Bentley joined city rivals Manchester City in 2015. She went on to graduate into the senior set up at The Academy Stadium before returning to Manchester United in 2018.
Bentley made one appearance for Manchester United in their 2018/2019 FA Women’s Championship-winning season which came in an 8-0 victory over Millwall Lionesses at The Leigh Sports Village. The player also spent time on loan at Sheffield United where she gained further first team playing experience.
The keeper becomes Blackburn Rovers boss Gemma Donnelly’s eighth signing of the summer, three of which have been goalkeepers. Rovers begin their 2020/2021 campaign at Leicester City on Sunday in the FA Women’s Championship.
