London City Lionesses midfielder makes the cut for final Republic of Ireland squad

London City Lionesses midfielder Alli Murphy has made the final cut for the Republic of Ireland squad which will face Germany in a UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier in Essen on Saturday 19 September.

The 26-year-old, who joined the London City Lionesses this summer, was called up into Vera Pauw’s initial 30-player squad for the first time last month.

Pauw has reduced her group down to 23 players with the FAI today confirming that Murphy has made the final cut, meaning that the player could make her debut for the nation against the Germans in 11 days’ time.

Murphy was born in the United States but qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland as a result of her Limerick-born grandparents. National boss Pauw worked with the midfielder at former club Houston Dash but forgotten the fact that Murphy held an Irish passport until recently being reminded by London City Lionesses head coach Lisa Fallon.

Pauw has named four players in her squad who are currently playing their football in the FA Women’s Championship. Midfielder Murphy is joined in the squad by London City Lionesses teammate Hayley Nolan while Niamh Fahey of Liverpool and Leicester City’s Ruesha Littlejohn are also in the final group.
