It has been a very good day for Manchester United defender Millie Turner.
Not only has the 24-year-old received her first senior call-up to the Lionesses squad but she has also penned a new contract with the club according to reports on United’s official website.
The deal will keep her at The Leigh Sports Village until summer 2022 having already spent the last two years with The Red Devils
Turner has been a stalwart of the United defence since they reformed in 2018 and recently became the first player to reach 50 appearances for the club. Her new contract also includes an option to extend for an extra year which at this moment in time, you would imagine that both parties will want to take up.
“I’m so happy to be signing a new contract; the club is like family and I want to thank Casey (Stoney) and the staff for believing in me” Turner told the club’s official website.
“Making my 50th appearance at the weekend was such a proud moment for me, it’s a huge honour every time I pull on the shirt and I hope it’s just one of many milestones I can achieve here.
“I’m really looking forward to continuing this journey with my team; we’re hungry for success and I’m excited for what the future holds for us.”
United are still in the early stages of that journey but they have made tremendous progress during that time. Stoney’s side are fresh off the back of a very impressive display against last season’s champions Chelsea which saw them come away with their first point against Emma Hayes’ side. That is a big accomplishment for a team that was playing FA Women’s Championship football just 16 months ago and if they continue on this trajectory, Turner will certainly be getting that success that she is so hungry for.
