Blackburn Rovers have today confirmed the capture of Everton forward Elise Hughes on a season-long loan deal according to reports on Rovers’ official website.
Hughes is a product of the Everton academy system and made her debut for the first team at just 16 years of age.
She scored her first goal for The Blue Girls in a Merseyside derby against bitter rivals Liverpool in December 2018.
After falling out of favour at Everton, Hughes spent time on loan at the club’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Bristol City last season, however, an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury cruelly cut her stay at the Stoke Gifford Stadium short.
After securing the services of the forward, Blackburn Rovers manager Gemma Donnelly told the club’s official media sources “Elise is a very hard-working forward and a proven goalscorer so we’re delighted to have her with us for the rest of this season and I’m looking forward to working with her.”
Goals were certainly hard to come by for Rovers last season as they only found the net on 13 occasions, the third-lowest tally in the FA Women’s Championship. Teenage forward Hughes will be hoping to make her debut for the Lancashire club this Sunday as they host Charlton Athletic. Having already lost their opening fixture against Leicester City 3-0 last weekend, Rovers will be hoping to get their season up and running against The Addicks.
Hughes is the tenth new signing to arrive at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium this summer and she will be hoping to add goals to the Rovers attack.
