Arsenal duo Manuela Zinsberger and Viktoria Schnaderbeck played 90 minutes for Austria as they defeated Kazakhstan 5-0 in Shymkent this afternoon in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying match.
The visiting team dominated from the off at the Namyz Stadium and victory was never in doubt as the Austrians extended their lead at the top of their qualifying group to six points, at least for now.
Arsenal keeper Zinsberger was untroubled throughout the entire 90 minutes in the Austrian goal as Kazakhstan failed to direct any of their three goal attempts on target. Club teammate Schnaderbeck captained the side playing on the right-hand side of defence.
Barbara Dunst’s early goal gave the Austrians a first half lead before further goals from Dunst, Verena Aschauer, Sarah Puntigam and Nicole Billa in the second 45 minutes saw the visitors end the match with a 5-0 victory.
The result means that Austria maintain their perfect record in qualifying of five wins out of five. It should be noted that they are yet to take on nearest challengers France. Austria are scheduled to face Corinne Diacre’s side at home next month before travelling to France for their return group game in November. The outcome of those games are likely to decide whether Austria will automatically qualify for the UEFA Women’s EURO finals in 2022 or whether they will face the lottery of the play-offs.
