Arsenal goalkeeper signs new long-term deal

Arsenal goalkeeper Fran Stenson has signed a new long-term contract with the club according to reports on The Gunners’ official club website.

The 19-year-old is currently behind both Manuela Zinsberger and Lydia Williams in the battle for Arsenal’s number one jersey but the player is rated very highly by The Gunners’ head coach Joe Montemurro.

Stenson will have an extended opportunity to fight for her place in the Arsenal side with the teenager having today signed a new long-term contract at Meadow Park. The player has agreed to extend her deal with the North Londoners a little over 12 months on from joining the club from their Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Manchester City.

The keeper spent last season on-loan at FA Women’s Championship club Blackburn Rovers. She made nine league appearances for Gemma Donnelly’s side keeping two clean sheets. Stenson was hugely impressive for the Lancashire club and she undoubtedly has a big future ahead of her in the game.

With Australian goalkeeper Williams currently out injured, Stenson has been used as a back-up for fellow keeper Zinsberger in recent weeks. The youngster has been named amongst the Arsenal substitutes for both of their fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League so far this season while she was also in the squad for The Gunners’ 2019/2020 UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain last month.
