FA Women’s Championship leaders Durham have revealed that defensive duo Becky Salicki and Abby Holmes are likely to be sidelined for a number of weeks through injury according to reports on The Wildcats’ official website.
Lee Sanders’ side have already lost forward Iris Achterhof to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury and she is being joined in the treatment room by teammates Salicki and Holmes.
Centre-back Salicki sustained an injury during the first half of Sunday’s 2-1 victory at London Bees. The player initially tried to carry on but was replaced by Lauren Briggs just minutes later. Salicki’s injury has now been assessed by the Durham medical team and it has been revealed that she has fractured her shin. The defender is now likely to have to wear a protective boot for six weeks before being able to return to training.
Fellow defender Holmes has not appeared in the Durham squad since The Wildcats’ 1-0 victory over London City Lionesses at Maiden Castle last month. It is understood that the player has picked up a knee injury which requires surgery. The timescale for Holmes’ recovery will be determined once the player has gone under the surgeon’s knife.
Durham return to action on Wednesday 4 November when they travel to Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.
