Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema has withdrawn from the Dutch squad with a hip injury.
The 24-year-old was initially named in Sarina Wiegman’s squad for the upcoming fixtures against the United States and Kosovo, however, she will now take no part in the upcoming camp after picking up a hip injury.
Miedema featured for Arsenal in their North London derby fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at Meadow Park on Wednesday evening in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. She netted the opening goal against Karen Hills and Juan Amoros’ side and played the first 74 minutes of the tie before being substituted. It is unknown whether the player sustained her injury during the second half of that match.
The Arsenal forward is her nation’s all-time record goalscorer with 70 goals in just 91 competitive senior appearances but she will have no further opportunity to extend her goal tally until 2021.
The Netherlands are scheduled to take on the United States in an international friendly in Breda next Friday before facing Kosovo in a UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier at the same venue four days’ later. Wiegman’s side have already secured their place in the tournament finals in England in a little over 18 months’ time.
The Dutch Football Association, the KNVB, confirmed Miedema’s withdrawal via their official Twitter account earlier today with Victoria Pelova named as her replacement.
Vivianne Miedema moet door een heupblessure de komende interlandperiode missen. Victoria Pelova is als haar vervanger opgeroepen.
