Adaptable Brighton & Hove Albion forward happy to play in any position to help the team

Brighton & Hove Albion forward Kayleigh Green has admitted that she is happy to play in any position if it will help the club progress in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The Welsh international has surrendered her leading role in the Albion attack to both Rianna Jarrett and Lee Geum-min this season with Green playing in a slightly deeper position.

When recently speaking to FA Women’s Super League Full-Time, Green admitted that she is willing to play in any position as long as it is beneficial for the team.

“I’ll play anywhere that you put me” said the Albion forward. “If I play as a winger, I am still involved in the attack just like if I play as a number nine.

“I’ll do anything that I can and play anywhere that I can to help out my team. There is a lot of rotation between me, Ri (Jarrett), Lee (Geum-min) and Aileen (Whelan) so I sometimes end up playing in the nine.”

Green has spent most of her career as a defender before converting to a striker and she went on to admit that she misses her defensive responsibilities.

Green joked “Some days I wish I was still a defender and I could stand around for a little bit I guess.

“It has been a great transition for me and something that has made me a better player.

“Do I miss my playing days? Yeah of course I do, I miss my one-on-one challenges.

“Being involved in the attack and learning all of the things I have learnt over the last few years is something I want to keep building on. I want to continue to develop and keep challenging myself.

“I’ve enjoyed the transition and I think I’ve got a couple of years left in me yet.”

Green is in her third season as a Brighton & Hove Albion player. She has netted four goals in 41 Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances for The Seagulls as they have established themselves in the top tier.
