Alex Morgan’s temporary Tottenham Hotspur stay to come to an end

Tottenham Hotspur forward Alex Morgan is leaving the club to return to the United States according to reports on the club’s official website.

The two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winner joined Spurs on a short-term deal in September. The arrangement was only expected to run until January and it has today been confirmed that Morgan’s stay at The Hive will not be extended with the player returning to the United States.

The 31-year-old forward joined Spurs from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Orlando Pride in a bid to rebuild her fitness after giving birth. Morgan went on to make five appearances for the club, scoring two goals. Both of those strikes came in wins against Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa.

Morgan could have made her final appearance for Spurs at Chelsea yesterday, however, the match was postponed as a result of positive COVID-19 tests in the home camp ahead of the fixture.

New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner could opt to enter the January transfer window to find a replacement for Morgan. Skinner expressed her desire for her Spurs side to play an attacking brand of football after being handed the job and she will be keen to build on the six goals scored in her first two matches in charge.

Spurs return to Barclays FA Women’s Super League action on Sunday 10 January 2021 when they host Birmingham City at The Hive.
