Coventry United aiming for marquee signings as local business leaders acquire stake in club

Coventry United are gearing themselves up for significant activity in the January transfer window with three local business leaders having acquired a 49% stake in the club according to official club reports.

The Warwickshire club currently occupy ninth position in the FA Women’s Championship but they have ambitious plans to go full-time in the short to medium term and are planning to make some ‘marquee signings’ in next month’s transfer window as they look to further the building process for their potential rise to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Coventry United’s shirt sponsors, Hycolin, are behind the partial change in club ownership with the cleaning business’ three owner-directors acquiring a 49% stake. Hycolin’s investment will initially help fund the proposed January additions while it is hoped that their long-term involvement will help the club achieve their dream of being a full-time professional outfit playing at the top level.

Since their promotion to the FA Women’s Championship in 2019, Coventry United have impressed with some of their exciting attacking play but have struggled defensively therefore manager Jay Bradford could initially focus her January recruitment around defensive reinforcements. Should the club become more stable at the back, more frequent positive results are sure to come with Coventry United having one of the best goalscoring records in the league other than those sides challenging for promotion.

Coventry United ended the 2019/2020 campaign second-bottom of the FA Women’s Championship with nine points from 14 games.
