Former Sheffield United midfielder omitted from Brisbane Roar squad for season opener

Former Sheffield United midfielder Olivia Chance is still waiting to make her Brisbane Roar debut after being omitted from the final 16-player squad for their Westfield W-League season opener against 2019/2020 champions Melbourne City at The Dolphin Stadium in Redcliffe this morning.

The two sides played out a goalless draw with New Zealand international Chance named in the initial 18-player squad but she did not make the final 16.

The 27-year-old midfielder swapped FA Women’s Championship club Sheffield United for Westfield W-League side Brisbane Roar in November with the move offering the player the opportunity to move closer to home. This morning’s fixture was the first of the new Westfield W-League season as the competition returned for the first time since March.

Chance spent three years in England in total representing top flight sides Everton and Bristol City before moving to Sheffield United in September. The player’s time at Everton was disrupted by an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury which kept her out of action for a number of months.

The midfielder will be hoping to make her Brisbane Roar debut at the second time of asking in the club’s next Westfield W-League fixture against Canberra United at Viking Park on Thursday 7 January 2021. The Roar finished one place above United in the regular season in 2020.
