Chelsea ace Harder nets sixth consecutive Danish Player of the Year award

Chelsea forward Pernille Harder has been named the Danish Female Footballer of the Year for the sixth year running.

The award is handed out each year by the Danish Players’ Association, Spillerforeningen, with Harder being the overwhelming winner of the award based upon the opinions of her national colleagues.

Spillerforeningen announced Harder’s latest award via their official website earlier today. Harder retains the award which she has held since 2015 for another year while her latest accolade is her seventh in total, eight years on from receiving her first award.

The year 2020 saw Harder move to within one goal of equalling the all-time record goalscoring tally for the Danish national team. She netted five international goals in total during the calendar year, including a brace in a 4-0 UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying victory over Isreal in October.

Harder netted 16 goals in 2020 at club level including an impressive quartet of strikes against Glasgow City in the quarter-finals of the 2019/2020 UEFA Women’s Champions League for former club VfL Wolfsburg. The Dane captained the She-Wolves against Lyon in the final in what was her last appearance for the club before joining Chelsea.

The Danish Female Footballer of the Year award is just the latest of several accolades collected by Harder for her performances in both the 2019/2020 season and the year 2020. The 28-year-old has received several awards which include the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, UEFA Women’s Champions League Player of the Year and the German Women’s Footballer of the Year awards.
