Young defender Patten secures Arsenal return after four years away

Young defender Anna Patten has rejoined Arsenal following a four-year spell playing away from the club according to reports on The Gunners’ official website.

The 21-year-old Harpenden-born defender, who has twice been drafted into the England senior squad, returns to Meadow Park after spending four years combining her football with her studies in the United States.

In her first spell with The Gunners, Patten successfully negotiated her way through the club’s academy ranks before going on to make her senior debut against Bayern Munich in 2017. The youngster then went on to make eight appearances for Arsenal in the 2017 FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series as the North Londoners finished in third position, a point behind eventual league winners Chelsea and runners-up Manchester City.

Patten has recently been without a club following the conclusion of her studies in the United States and it has today been confirmed that she has returned to Arsenal.

At this stage, it is unknown whether Patten will be available to make her second debut for Arsenal at Aston Villa on Saturday, should that game go ahead. If the youngster is not eligible to play in that match, she could be involved in the squad to take on Reading at The Madejski Stadium next weekend.
