Blackburn Rovers complete the signing of Leicester City midfielder

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of midfielder Annabel Blanchard from FA Women’s Championship rivals Leicester City.

Rovers informed FA Women’s Super League Full-Time of the move via an official club press release this afternoon.

The 19-year-old becomes Rovers boss Gemma Donnelly’s first signing of the January transfer window. She links-up with a Rovers squad who have impressed throughout the season so far.

Blanchard started her career with Liverpool and she successfully came through the Merseyside club’s Regional Talent Centre (RTC). The youngster made two brief senior appearances for The Reds in the FA Women’s Super League while she starred for the club’s Development Squad as they won the FA WSL Development League title in 2018/2019.

The midfielder joined Leicester City ahead of the 2019/2020 campaign and she represented The Foxes on 14 occasions in the FA Women’s Championship in her first season at Farley Way, scoring two goals. With Leicester City having heavily invested in their first team squad this season and having turned full-time, Blanchard has found first team opportunities more difficult to come by and she will now be hoping to kick on at new club Blackburn Rovers.

Blanchard has been handed the number 25 shirt by Rovers and could make her debut for the club against London City Lionesses on Sunday should the game go ahead.
