Norwegian international defender Maren Mjelde has signed a new contract with Chelsea which will keep her at the club until summer 2022 according to reports on The Blues’ official website.
The 31-year-old has been unused by Chelsea manager Emma Hayes on just one occasion in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League with Mjelde continuing to be a valuable member of the squad.
In her nine league outings, Mjelde has helped Chelsea to record four clean sheets while she has contributed goals against Bristol City and Manchester City.
Following a successful first half of the season, it has today been confirmed that Mjelde has penned a new 18-month deal at Kingsmeadow, news that will no doubt delight all fans of The Blues.
Mjelde joined Chelsea from Norwegian club Avaldsnes IL ahead of the 2017 FA Women’s Super League 1 Spring Series and she went on to play in every game as The Blues won the stop-gap season. She then won an FA Women’s Super League 1 and Women’s FA Cup double the following year before completing another domestic double last season, a league winner’s medal this time being joined by FA Women’s Continental League Cup silverware.
The defender will be hoping to add further silverware to her personal trophy cabinet this season and there is every chance that this could happen with The Blues competing on four fronts.
