Former Everton midfielder Damaris Egurrola could make her league debut for new club Lyon when they take on Montpellier at the Groupama OL Academy Décines-Charpieu this afternoon.
The 21-year-old Spanish international midfielder completed her move to the European champions during last month’s transfer window with former club Everton receiving a six-figure fee for her services.
The Blue Girls were keen to hang onto the player but eventually allowed Egurrola to follow her dreams of pulling on one of the most famous shirts in the women’s game.
Egurrola came off the bench to make her first Lyon appearance in a 5-0 Coupe de France victory over Stade Reims a little over a week ago and she will now be hoping to make her league debut for OL this afternoon when they face fourth-placed side Montpellier on home soil. Lyon are aiming for a 15th consecutive Division 1 title success this season, however, their title credentials are being severely pushed by Paris Saint-Germain who are four points clear of Jean-Luc Vasseur’s side having played a game more.
During her short time as an Everton player, Egurrola made 10 appearances in all competitions for the club. The midfielder played 99 minutes of the 2019/2020 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final as Everton were defeated 3-1 by Manchester City after extra-time.
