Manchester United forward Christen Press provided an assist for the United States as they defeated France 2-0 in Le Havre this evening.
The 32-year-old impressed for The Stars and Stripes at February’s SheBelieves Cup and she has continued to make claims for a place in the Olympic Games squad with solid performances in this month’s international friendly matches.
The United States’ 16-game winning run came to an end with a 1-1 draw with Sweden in Stockholm on Saturday and Vlatko Andonovski’s side were therefore keen to return to winning ways at the first attempt against France. They got off to a perfect start when Alex Morgan was fouled in the box and Megan Rapinoe continued her scoring streak in 2021 for the national team by converting from the penalty spot.
Morgan got her name on the scoresheet 15 minutes later after being picked out by Press. The Manchester United forward threaded through a neat pass and Morgan fired her shot across goal into the far corner of the net.
Andonovski’s side dominated the possession and the attacking play throughout the remainder of the game but they could not add to their goal tally as the scoreline remained 2-0.
Press was joined in the United States starting XI this evening by Manchester City trio Abby Dahlkemper, Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis.
